Poroshenko discussed with Freeland UN peacekeeping mission in the Donbass

Today during the meeting with the Minister of foreign Affairs of Canada Christ Freeland, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko discussed the situation in the Donbass, the status of implementation of the Minsk agreements, the parties also agreed on their vision for the implementation of the initiative to deploy the UN peacekeeping operation throughout the occupied territory of Donetsk and Lugansk regions. Poroshenko said that he expects Canada’s «principled position» on the issue of sanctions pressure on Moscow, first and foremost, in the context of the future chairmanship of the state in the «Big seven».

The parties also discussed possible ways of mutually beneficial opportunities that a free trade Agreement, as well as ways of deepening bilateral cooperation in the defense sphere, «including Ukraine’s support in the development of close partnership relations with NATO.»

The Ukrainian head of state «particularly noted the support of Canada the implementation of reforms in Ukraine,» the statement reads.

Poroshenko arrived in Canada on September 22. After meeting with Trudeau, he thanked the Prime Minister of Canada for supporting the canadian side of the reform. Poroshenko said that the UN mission will be deployed throughout the territory of Donbass, and not only on the line of contact, as Russia wants.
