Poroshenko discussed the preservation of anti-Russian sanctions with Kerry and Mogherini

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko during a meeting with U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry during the Munich conference on security discussed the need to maintain sanctions against the Russian Federation with the purpose of complete fulfillment of the Minsk agreements.

Mogherini supported the retention of sanctions against Russia

«Petro Poroshenko and John Kerry emphasized the need to maintain sanctions against Russia to fulfil its Minsk agreements and stop the aggression against Ukraine», — stated in the message.

Reportedly, Poroshenko also briefed the Secretary about the approaches of the Ukrainian side to resolve the situation in the Donbass.

«The Ukrainian head of state expressed hope that the United States will continue to support by all means the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine and to contribute to the consolidation of international efforts», — is spoken in the message.

The two sides also discussed political and diplomatic ways of de-occupation of Crimea. In this context, the President of Ukraine called for the active protection of the rights of Crimean Tatars.

«John Kerry welcomed the efforts Poroshenko for the implementation of reforms in Ukraine and the adoption of anti-corruption legislation, in particular the submission to Parliament of a package of laws for visa-free», — said the press service of the President.

Mogherini supported the retention of sanctions against Russia

The high representative of the European Union for foreign Affairs and security policy — Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini at the meeting in Munich the President of Ukraine in the need to maintain sanctions against Russia to fulfil its Minsk agreements.

«The head of state was informed about the situation in the Donbass. The interlocutors expressed concern about the increasing number of attacks and the non-admission of the OSCE observers on the objects that are in the occupied territory. Mogherini stressed the need to maintain sanctions against Russia to fulfil its Minsk agreements», — informs the press service Poroshenko.

It is also noted that the sides discussed the situation in the occupied Crimea.

«The President urged the European Union to actively protect the Crimean Tatars, violations of which are more reminiscent of Stalinist times», — stated in the message.

Also, the President of Ukraine and the high representative of the EU discussed the issues of granting Ukraine a visa-free regime.

We will remind, on February 13, Poroshenko arrived at the Munich security conference to participate in «the presidential debate» and hold several bilateral meetings. He had previously met with Lithuanian President Dalia grybauskaitė and European Parliament President Martin Schulz.
