Poroshenko created the Council for protection of journalists

When the President established a separate body to deal with the protection of professional activities of journalists and freedom of speech.

This is stated in the signed Petro Poroshenko the decree, made public on Tuesday, February 23.

The Council will work as a consultative body, which will monitor the situation and propose steps to resolve the problems of the media.

To head this body, will be press Secretary Poroshenko Svyatoslav tsigalko , and the Deputy of his Administration Andriy Taranov.

In addition, the Council includes representatives of Netpolice, the GPU, the SBU, the national Council of broadcasting and members of public organizations who work in the field of media.

Recall that on 4 February the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law that reinforces the protection of journalists. Thus, the Draft law provides for liability for illegal disposal of collected, treated, prepared by the journalist of materials and technical equipment which the journalist enjoys during their professional activities. In addition, for violation of the secrecy of correspondence, telephone conversations, Telegraph or other correspondence that was committed against journalists, it is expected criminal penalty of deprivation of liberty for a term of three to seven years.
