The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu in a telephone conversation identified priority directions of deepening cooperation between the two countries.
«The sides noted the need to intensify economic cooperation between Ukraine and Israel and agreed to take steps to complete the process of concluding a bilateral free trade Agreement», — the press service of the Ukrainian President on the results of the conversation.
Also agreed on mutual support in the framework of international organizations on the basis of common interests, and taking into account Ukraine’s membership in the UN security Council.
The Israeli government has congratulated Ukraine on the beginning of the presidency in the UN security Council. Both sides confirmed the intention to cooperate closely to fight terrorism, promote the peaceful settlement in the middle East and the restoration of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
«In the framework of strengthening of friendship and partnership between the peoples of Ukraine and Israel, an agreement was reached on the visit of Prime Minister of Ukraine in Israel,» — said in the message.
As reported, Prime Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Groisman , has postponed her visit to Israel, which was originally planned for 27-28 December 2016, for an indefinite period. According to the Agency, the cancellation of the visit is related to the situation around voting in the UN security Council on a resolution that called on Israel to stop building settlements in the Palestinian territories. Of the 15 members of the UN security Council 14, including Ukraine, voted for the resolution and only the United States abstained but did not veto.
Israel, meanwhile, refused to comply with the resolution of the UN security Council, prohibiting the building of new Jewish settlements in the Palestinian territories.
