The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the meeting with Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel intends to discuss the preparation of the «road map» implementation of the Minsk agreements, reports «Interfax-Ukraine».
«Today we will be discussing a «road map» implementation of the Minsk agreements», — said the President to journalists before the talks with Merkel in Berlin on Monday, 30 January 2017.
Poroshenko said that leaders «Channel format» (Ukraine, Germany, France, Russia) have agreed to develop this document at the previous summit in this format.
«I want to thank our German French colleagues for the strong and principled stand in support of Ukraine’s position and Express the hope that we will be able to find enough arguments that Russia finally returned to the negotiating table and finally started to implement the Minsk agreement», — he said
In this Poroshenko stressed once again that he sees no alternative to the Minsk agreements.
Poroshenko said about the importance of maintaining sanctions against Russia as conducive to positive dynamics in the negotiations in the «Norman format» and to the implementation of the Moscow agreements already reached and, if necessary, to strengthen them.
«We believe that today we need decisive and unified action. Decisive action in order to motivate the Russian side to be at the negotiating table, to motivate them to implement in full the Minsk agreements, first security component… in the case, if the implementation does not happen, we support the preservation and, if necessary strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia», — said the President.
In turn, Merkel before the talks expressed its concern at the worsening security situation in Eastern Ukraine and the concomitant losses in the Armed forces of Ukraine.
«We learned that the regime of silence (in the ATO area — ed.) no, the soldiers are dying and this situation is causing concern,» she said.
As previously reported, January 30, Poroshenko started the working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany. In addition to Merkel, he is also scheduled to meet with Vice-Chancellor and foreign Minister of Germany Sigmar Gabriel. at the same time, he has already held meeting with President of the Bundestag Norbert Lammert.
