Ponomarev: Sobchak to run for mayor of St. Petersburg in September 2019

Journalist Ksenia Sobchak might take second place on elections of the mayor of St. Petersburg. This opinion was expressed by e, KS-the Deputy of the state Duma of the Russian emigre Ilya Ponomarev in the program «BATMAN» editor-in-chief of the edition «GORDON» Alesya Batsman on the channel «112 Ukraine».

The former MP noted that the results of the elections, Sobchak received a political party under the name of «Civil initiative» which she «took for themselves» the former economy Minister of Russia Andrei Nechayev.

«She definitely will run for mayor of St. Petersburg in September next year. I must say that she has some chances. Peter – one of the two regions, where she took third place, ahead of Vladimir Zhirinovsky», – he said.

Ponomarev added that Sobchak is perceived in the regions as a kind of boss, because she can complain to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

«Though she and the opposition, Putin may be plenty to criticize, to advocate for the return of the Crimea, against war and so on. However, all know that if it hurt much, and her character, to put it mildly, no brakes… it can pick up the phone to call Vladimir Putin and say, «Hey that hurt!» Few people has the opportunity. This gives it certain political chances, maybe imaginary something, but from the point of view of the Russian bureaucracy it is better to err and it is not much watering», he said.

The former MP said he did not believe in the victory of Sobchak, but she can «much to unwind at the elections in St. Petersburg».

«That she will become mayor, I’m not sure. I don’t think it is by nature generally suited for the role of mayor. But if it is a strong second place will put the election in the second round, then of course this will mean a sharp increase in its status and weight in the all-Russian policy», – said Ponomarev.
