The sarcophagus, which rested Kaczynski, was on the territory of the Wawel castle. The sarcophagus was opened in the presence of relatives of the victims, among whom were the presidential couple’s daughter Marta and twin brother of the President Yaroslav Kachinsky.
Was read the funeral prayer, after which the remains were taken to forensic medicine center of the medical College of the Jagiellonian University to study a group of international experts. In addition to traditional autopsies they arrange and gather samples for further laboratory tests. This is necessary to eliminate errors that were allegedly committed by the previous Commission of Russian physicians.
Until the end of 2016 it is planned to exhume the bodies of 10 victims in the crash, the rest of the procedure is expected to be completed before the end of 2017. The exhumation of the bodies of the spouses Kaczynski became the first exhumations of bodies of victims of the Smolensk disaster.
As reported, in April the National Prosecutor’s office of Poland was transferred from the military Prosecutor, who has already been eliminated, the investigation into the Smolensk disaster. In June the Prosecutor’s office ordered the exhumation of the bodies of all the victims of the disaster. The exhumation will not affect the nine bodies that were exhumed during 2010-2015. It also touches several of the victims, who at the request of the family after being transported to Poland was cremated.
Many relatives of the victims disagree with the decision of the Prosecutor’s office and do not want exhumation of the bodies of their loved ones. The request of the representative of the civil rights of the Republic of Poland to the National Prosecutor’s office was made at the request of the relatives of one of the victims of the disaster.
