Poland and Romania will refuse from Russian gas

Poland will strive for a situation in which purchases of Russian gas under long-term agreements will leave in the past, said the representative of the Polish government on the development of strategic energy infrastructure Piotr Naimski at the conference on investment in Eastern Europe, organized by Reuters.

Romania may refuse from Russian gas imports

«If the price of Russian gas is quite competitive, we do not exclude the possibility of its acquisition, but certainly not under long-term agreements», — quotes TASS Naimski.

Currently, supplies of Russian gas to Poland are carried under long-term contract with Gazprom, which will be valid until 2022. Under the contract, Poland can buy from Russia, 10.2 billion cubic meters of gas a year, but last year, Warsaw has gained only 8 billion cubic meters, covering the remaining needs on the German stock exchange.

According to Naimski, to go to failure on long-term agreements Poland because of the emergence in the Republic of liquefied natural gas terminal in świnoujście. The first commercial delivery to the terminal in June will start the Qatar (the contract was signed for 1.5 billion cubic meters per year).

Warsaw also hopes to implement the Baltic Pipe project, which provides for the merger of the Polish, Danish and Norwegian gas transporting infrastructure. In this way the Republic will be able to buy up to 10 billion cubic meters per year.

Earlier, Gazprom has had to renegotiate contracts with European buyers of Russian gas after the court decisions. In particular, in the summer of 2013 by the decision of the Vienna international arbitration on the dispute between Gazprom and RWE Supply&Trading CZ was revised price for long-term gas supply contract in the Czech Republic. In November 2014 the Austrian company OMV has initiated negotiations with Gazprom on lowering gas prices.

Previously, the largest Polish gas distributor PGNiG, the company also announced the filing of a lawsuit in the Stockholm arbitration court against Gazprom and Gazprom export». The subject of the dispute was the change in terms of prices in the long-term contract for the purchase of natural gas.

Note also, the first Deputy Minister of economic development and trade of Ukraine Yulia Kovaliv reported on may 27 that Ukraine buys natural gas from Russian gas monopoly Gazprom for more than 5 months, as the country is more profitable to import it from European sources.

March 31, Naftogaz has said it has no plans to resume the purchase of gas from Gazprom from April 1, 2016, because the price of gas proposed by the Russian company for the second quarter of 2016, is higher than the proposed European suppliers of «Naftogaz».

Romania may refuse from Russian gas imports

In June of this year gas production in Romania far exceed the consumption of the resource, in this regard, they can refuse to import Russian gas.

About it reports UKRINFORM with reference to information from the National Agency for energy regulation.

According to experts, in June, Romanian consumers will need about 600 million cubic meters, while production will amount to 800 million cubic meters.

In the Romanian regulator said that due to lack of technical capacity to export, the difference between the rates of production and consumption of gas will accumulate in the vaults of the country.

Such plans Romania announced in September last year, when they bought from Gazprom about 3% fuel. For example, in 2008, Romanian imports was at 25%.
