Piontkovsky: the Word «thief» in Russian language has many meanings, and Putin meet him in all senses

Opposition politician Alexei Navalny has become the first nationwide Russian politician recently, and dissatisfaction with Russian President Vladimir Putin has spread to the power elite of the Russian Federation. This opinion was expressed by Russian political scientist and publicist Andrei Piontkovsky in his column on «Radio Liberty».

«Today, Navalny is the only politician in the country, at the call of which is in dozens of cities in Russia go to protest marches thousands of young people. Not fanatical followers of Navalny or any of his cult, and conscious citizens with politically relevant slogans, the main one being: «Putin – thief». The word «thief» in Russian language has many meanings, and Putin is consistent in all respects», – said the analyst.

He stressed that since 2012 Putin is a thug who grossly violated the constitutional limits on the duration of tenure as President.

«To call Putin himself will never be released as many people. He can only bring buses to the unfortunate state employees, and in expensive limousines – the corrupt masters of culture. Declared the strike headquarters of the Bulk of voters – constitutional act of civil disobedience against an illegitimate government», – said the publicist.

According to Piontkovsky, the story of the collapse of authoritarian regimes in the world has a common pattern.

«The universal recipe for their downfall is a combination of two interrelated factors: mass protest activity and the split in the regime. The main reason for the failure of the protest movement in 2011-2012 was not an error of the opposition (which were many) and not the comparative paucity of protesters. In other circumstances, and two hundred thousand demonstrators would be enough to drop power, do not have an active and unselfish public support. And Putin’s regime such support neither then nor now did not have and does not have», – he said.

The political scientist believes that the stability of the Putin regime stems from the fact that the President is regarded by the elites as a political cover.

«Today the situation is completely different. «Elite» is in turmoil and confusion. Akela has missed its foreign policy adventures and are no longer able to perform their essential function of political protection and security guarantee. Moreover, it has become a major threat to the security of their environment. We already live in a different country. For the first time since 2000 our future is not assigned and open. It currently depends on our determination, our effort, our dedication. «Impotence» or gangrene. Motherland or death,» he concluded.

Presidential elections in Russia will be held on 18 March 2018.

So far the only registered candidate is the leader of LDPR Vladimir Zhirinovsky.

Journalist Sobchak, acting President Putin and the founder of the party «Yabloko» Grigory Yavlinsky has submitted documents to the Central election Commission and began collecting signatures for registration.

Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny announced the decision to participate in the presidential elections in December 2016, however, 25 December 2017, the CEC adopted decision on refusal in its registration.

The bulk response was posted on the Internet a video message in which he announced a «strike of voters» in connection with the refusal of the CEC to allow him the election.

Today, the Supreme court of Russia rejected the complaint Navalny ineligible for election.
