Peskov said that Navalny calls for a boycott of the elections in Russia should be examined for compliance with legislation

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that the calls of opposition leader Alexei Navalny to boycott the elections should be examined for compliance with the law, reports «Interfax».

According to Peskov, «calls to boycott, of course, be very careful the study for compliance or conflict with our laws».

He noted that the Kremlin does not agree with the opinion that the non-participation of Navalny in presidential elections reduce the legitimacy and impact on voter turnout.

Presidential elections in Russia will be held on 18 March 2018.

Navalny announced the decision to participate in the presidential elections in December 2016. He said he goes to the polls «program on how to make Russia a fair and modern.» The head of the Central election Commission of the Russian Federation Ella Pamfilova said that the opposition leader may take part in the presidential elections in 2018, but only if it will remove a record or to change the law.

Navalny posted on the Internet a video message in which he announced a «strike of voters» in connection with the refusal of the CEC to allow it to elections in connection with outstanding conviction.
