Pentagon to stop buying Russian helicopters, instead they will purchase Sikorsky Black Hawk

The U.S. defense Department notified Congress that it plans to stop buying Russian helicopters for Afghanistan helicopter mi17 till broad peak, and will buy helicopters and us-made.

This decision was announced, Senator Chris Murphy, reports Radio Liberty.

«I can never understand why the US government is sending taxpayer money to Russia for helicopters for Afghanistan, while Russia has supported the Assad regime in Syria and the invasion of Eastern Ukraine. If the Pentagon buys helicopters, they should be made in America,» said Murphy.

The Pentagon announced that will purchase Sikorsky Black Hawk helicopters made in Connecticut.

«In terms of Russia’s attempts to undermine our foreign policy goals in the middle East and its continuing aggression in Ukraine, it is time that the United States has cut its dependence on Russian-made helicopters for operations in Afghanistan,» said a member of the U.S. house of representatives Rosa DeLauro, adding that it is necessary to give priority to American manufacturers and workers.

Western sanctions against Russia for its aggression in Ukraine do not hinder the delivery of Russian helicopters and their components in Afghanistan in the past two years, says Radio Liberty.

Note that Poland and Ukraine negotiate the creation of a new helicopter on the capacities of the two countries.
