Ukraine is the only country in the world, able to double agricultural production, to bring it up to 100 million tons and, consequently, to increase the AgroExport, said the Minister of agrarian policy of Ukraine Alex Pavlenko during the signing of the investment agreement for 100 million. to build a grain terminal in the port «South», UNIAN reports.

Ukraine and USA signed the investment on construction of grain terminal in port «Yuzhny» on USD 100 million.

According to the Minister, the key to achieving goals is an investment in 1 ha of agricultural land, as well as investments in infrastructure, especially port infrastructure.

Pavlenko noted that the volume of exports of agricultural products by the end of 2015 amounted to 35 million tons.

«Now we go to a new record of 37 million tons. But this is impossible without investment in port infrastructure and the agricultural sector», — said Pavlenko.

As reported, citing data from the State statistics service, Ukraine (excluding temporarily occupied Crimea and the ATO zone) in 2015 gathered 59,96 million tons of grain and leguminous, which is 6.1% less than in 2014.

According to experts, the potential volume of supply of grain from Ukraine in 2015-2016 MG 37.7 million tons. Last season Ukraine exported to 34.8 million tons of grain.

The agrarian exports of Ukraine in 2015 was 14.6 billion dollars. and exceeded imports by a record for the country since independence 11.1 billion dollars. Last year 45% of Ukrainian food exports went to Asia, 28.2% in Europe and 13.6 percent in Africa and 10% in CIS countries. The basis of commodity structure of Ukrainian agricultural exports totaled: grains — 16% of total exports, fats and oils 9%, oilseeds — 4%.

Ukraine and USA signed an investment agreement for a total amount of us $ 100 million. on the construction of a grain terminal in the port Yuzhny (Odessa region). One of the parties to the agreement were the American company Cargill is one of the largest private companies investing in food production.

The signing ceremony was held in the Cabinet of Ministers in the presence of Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

Commenting on the signing of the agreement, Yatsenyuk said: «I want to congratulate the American and Ukrainian business so that the investment in 100 million. took place. This is evidence of real partnership relations between Ukraine and the United States.»

In turn, Geoffrey Pyatt stressed that the signing of the agreement is a demonstration of trust and confidence in the actions of the Ukrainian government, which is going through reforms: «This project (construction of the terminal – ed.) is one of those initiatives that were discussed during the Ukrainian-American business forum with Vice President Joe Biden and U.S. Secretary of Commerce penny Pritzker«.

According to Payette, the construction of the new terminal will increase the export opportunities of Ukraine and will create hundreds of new jobs.

As reported, the project of construction of the grain terminal is one of the steps on expanding the Ukrainian port and industrial infrastructure aimed at increasing export potential of our country in the agricultural sector.

A Memorandum of intent to build a grain terminal in the port «South» was signed in August of 2015. Then the document was signed by General Director of Cargill Should Martin, Chairman SOE «Administration seaports of Ukraine» (ASPU) Andrey Amelin and Director of the stevedoring company «MV cargo» Alexander Primak.

Under the agreement, Cargill agrees to purchase 51% of the transhipment terminal in the port «South» build «MV cargo». Thus, under the terms of the Memorandum, the ILA is committed to conducting dredging in the port.
