Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andrey Parubiy and the speaker of the Knesset of the state of Israel Yuli Edelstein discussed the issues of deepening cooperation between the two countries and noted the importance of recognizing the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
As the correspondent of the UNIAN reports, Parubiy said during a joint Edelstein briefing after their meeting.
Paruby emphasized that this visit is very significant for Ukraine.
«This is the first visit at such level for the last 23 years of relations between our countries,» he said.
According to the speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, «we are facing important tasks to improve and increase the intensity of cooperation between Ukraine and Israel.»
«Today we talked about the stages of this collaboration… what next intergovernmental agreements should be developed and should be supported by both of our parliaments,» — said paruby.
In particular, he noted, the agreement on social security, introducing of which Parliament is expected of the President of Ukraine. Parubiy expressed confidence that the agreement will be supported, as the agreement on temporary employment of workers in some sectors of the economy in the labor market of the state of Israel.
He also noted the importance for Ukraine, especially on the eve of the anniversary of the tragedy of the Holodomor to «and in the Knesset held an act of recognition of the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people.»
«I said that the Ukrainian side is counting on it. That legislative initiative, which has already been introduced in the Knesset, will be supported. After all, Israel as no one needs to understand the depth of the tragedy of the Ukrainian people in 1932-1933. We hope for a positive decision», — said Parubiy.
Earlier the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko agreed with the President of Israel Reuven Rivlin to accelerate negotiations on concluding Agreement on free trade zone between the countries.
