Parubiy believes that Ukraine will become a NATO member

Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andrei Parubiy stated that Ukraine aims to become a NATO member. He said this during the meeting with Chairman of the NATO parliamentary Assembly Michael Turner in Istanbul on 20 November, the press service of the Cabinet.

«The decision of the Bucharest NATO summit should be implemented and Ukraine will be a NATO member,» — said paruby.

He noted that Ukraine approved the program to bring the Armed forces up to NATO standards until 2020.

«This is actively engaged in by the President of Ukraine and the Verkhovna Rada. This is an ambitious goal, but I am convinced that the Armed forces implement it,» — said paruby.

He added that Ukraine needs to see and understand the specific requirements and time frame for getting membership in NATO. The speaker is convinced that the experience that have the APU can also be interesting and useful for the armies of the countries of the Alliance.

«We are convinced that fighting the Ukrainian army has the experience that will be of interest to the NATO countries. Now it passes the test of war — it is tempered,» — said paruby.

During the meeting, Parubiy also thanked Turner for his support of Ukraine, which demonstrates NATO PA.

The meeting was also attended by people’s deputies of Ukraine Irina Friz — Chairman of the permanent delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the NATO PA and Mustafa Dzhemilev.

Recall, December 2, 2014, during a meeting along the lines of «Ukraine — NATO» in Brussels, the Ukrainian government has notified the representatives of the Alliance that Kiev refuses policy of non-alignment.

On 23 December of the same year Parliament abolished the non-aligned status of the country.

According to the polls, NATO membership as at the beginning of July, was supported by 78% of Ukrainians.
