PACE adopted a resolution on democratic institutions in Ukraine

The parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted a resolution «Functioning of democratic institutions in Ukraine».

On Wednesday 25 January announced the MP of Ukraine, member of the Verkhovna Rada delegation to PACE George Legwinski on his page in Facebook.

«The PACE resolution «Functioning of democratic institutions in Ukraine» is adopted. Account 106 11 back in favor of Ukraine», — he wrote.

«It is important that our opponents failed to change the term «Russian aggression» to «internal conflict» to replace the concept of «free elections» with «election at gunpoint» and the election Commission headed by car! The power law above the law of force!», the MP added.

«Voted. In the end, in the resolution there are no elections in the Donbass. To restore security this can not be considered. Question about the special status of missing. Attempt the abolition of the law about decommunization and legalization of the Communist party of Ukraine left-wing forces in the PAIR failed thanks to the combined efforts to conquer the Ukrainian delegation», — wrote in his Facebook the people’s Deputy Borislav Birch.

So, earlier today it was reported that the Assembly had not approved the law, to demand from Ukraine by-elections to the Verkhovna Rada in the territories not controlled by the government. The amendment, which contained such a requirement was proposed by the Pro-Russian MP from Germany Andrey Gunko and modified by the Rapporteur Axel Fischer (both from Germany). It was proposed to adopt the rule that «the Problem of non-representation in Parliament of certain regions of Donetsk and Lugansk regions should be resolved as soon as possible».

Yesterday, 24 January, the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe endorsed a resolution entitled «Attacks on journalists and media freedom in Europe», the author of the project which is a Ukrainian MP Volodymyr Ariev. In her support on Tuesday 24 January voted 110 members, 15 against, and 9 abstained.

The document calls on the Russian authorities to release the film Director Oleg Sentsov, journalist Roman Sushchenko, arrested on suspicion of espionage, and to withdraw the accusations against the Crimean journalists, accused of «separatism» because of the mention of the illegal annexation of Crimea.

We will add that in October 2016, the PACE adopted two resolutions (adopted two of the report) in respect of Ukraine with proposed amendments. In particular, it changed the name of one of the documents — with the «Political consequences of the crisis in Ukraine» in «the Political consequences of Russian aggression in Ukraine.» PACE also urged European countries to keep sanctions against Russia to restore Ukraine’s sovereignty. So, PACE adopted a resolution which acknowledged the legal responsibility of the Russian authorities for the actions of the puppet «DNR» and «LNR» in Ukraine.
