Obama has extended sanctions against Russia over aggression in Ukraine, trump promised to save them

US President Barack Obama on Friday, January 13, extended for a year the sanctions against Russia because of its aggression in Ukraine. This is stated in common of the White house documents, reports TASS.

«The actions and policies of the government of the Russian Federation continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the USA», — stated in the decree of the American President.

«So I decided that it was necessary to continue the regime (sanctions) a state of emergency in accordance with the decree 13660 against Russia,» — said Obama.

Thus, the sanctions are extended for another year. The decree No. 13660 was published on 6 March 2014. Subsequently, it was supplemented by other decrees that expanded sanctions against Russian individuals and organizations.

While the US President-elect Donald trump in an interview with the U.S. edition of the Wall Street Journal stated that it would maintain sanctions against Russia «at least for some time.»

At the same time, the President-elect did not rule out lifting sanctions under certain conditions. He said that could lift sanctions if Moscow proves useful in the fight against terrorism, as well as in achieving other goals that are important to US.

«If we manage to get along, and if Russia really helped us if someone is doing really great things, then why would anyone keep sanctions», — quotes the edition of words of trump.

He expressed hope for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and added that it expects to improve relations not only with Russia but also with China, which was criticized during the election campaign, «BBC Russia».

«As far as I understand, they (Russians) would like to meet, and I can relate to this,» said trump.

According to the publication, the President-elect stressed that he is ready to meet with Putin after the inauguration.

In December 2016, the Washington announced the 35 expulsion of Russian diplomats from Washington and San Francisco and the introduction of new sanctions because of the scandal surrounding the hacking attacks during the elections of the President of the United States. U.S. authorities believe that the hacks can stand the Russian authorities that the latter deny it. To respond to the expulsion of its diplomats, Russia did not.
