Obama again reminded Putin on the Minsk agreements, but is pleased with the agreement on Syria

U.S. President Barack Obama on 22 February, spoke at the request of the Russian side with Russian President Vladimir Putin, congratulating the achievement of agreements on Syria and stressed the necessity to fulfill the Russian Federation the Minsk agreements. This is stated in the official statement of the White house.

«President Obama welcomed the agreement between the U.S., Russia and other partners in the International support group for Syria on the terms and conditions of the termination of hostilities», — the document says.

While Obama stressed that the priority now is «to provide positive response of the Syrian regime and the armed opposition, as well as faithful performance (of the agreement – ed.) all parties to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people, the resumption of the political process under the leadership of the UN and focus on defeating ISIL».

The US President also «stressed the importance of the implementation of the joint Russian-separatist forces in Eastern Ukraine of their obligations under the Minsk agreement, particularly the ceasefire and ensuring full access to the Special OSCE monitoring mission in the conflict zone, up to the international border».

In addition, Obama «stressed the importance of quickly reaching agreement on the modalities of holding free and fair elections in Eastern Ukraine in accordance with OSCE standards».
