Navalny has notified the CEC about the meeting with voters required for filing of application on participation in the elections of the President of Russia

Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny has informed the Central election Commission of Russia about the meeting on December 24 with a group of voters to apply to participate in the election of the President of the Russian Federation. He said this in his blog.

The politician stressed that, under Russian law, he has the right to participate in elections.

«Article 34 of the Federal law «About presidential elections of the Russian Federation», regulating the nomination of candidates. For nomination I need a group of at least 500 people. The notification must be submitted to the CEC or the regional electoral commissions. The group does not have to be alone, and we have 20 pieces in 20 cities of the country. Our campaign is nationwide, we felt right and the nomination hold not only in Moscow. This morning the relevant notice filed in all cities,» – said Navalny.

The meeting will be held in Saint-Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Perm, Nizhny Novgorod, Volgograd, Ufa, Izhevsk, Samara, Rostov-on-don and other Russian cities.

«December 24, in the nearest possible day, all over the country will be held 20 meetings of voters to nominate Navalny as a candidate for the presidency,» says the description to the case of Navalny on the TV channel «Alexey Navalny» in YouTube.

The politician announced the decision to participate in the presidential elections in December 2016. He said he goes to the polls «program on how to make Russia a fair and modern.» Chairman of the Central election Commission of the Russian Federation Ella Pamfilova said that Navalny may take part in the presidential elections in 2018, but only if it will remove his criminal record or to change the law.

Presidential elections in Russia will be held on 18 March 2018. At the moment on plans for the extension stated by the journalist Ksenia Sobchak, the leader of the CPRF Gennady Zyuganov, the LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky, businessman Sergei Polonsky, journalist Catherine Gordon, the Russian blogger Nigerian-born Samson Sholademi, business Ombudsman Boris Titov and others.

Acting President Vladimir Putin announced his intention to run on December 6. He will go to elections as the independent candidate.
