NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has warned elected President of the USA of Donald trump that for US this is not the time to abandon the Alliance.
About it writes The Guardian.
Stoltenberg noted that the West faces the greatest security threat in recent times.
«Now is not the time to question the value of partnership between Europe and the United States. Over the past few years we have seen a sharp deterioration in our security with a more assertive Russia and instability in North Africa and the middle East,» writes NATO Secretary General.
He also writes that the Russia of Vladimir Putin has become more «assertive» in recent years, and that tens of thousands of troops that Russia is amassing on the Western borders, should be seen as a real threat that the West must react.
«NATO battalions, numbering a thousand soldiers, can not compare with the Russian forces, numbering tens of thousands, only on the borders. Our response must be defensive and proportionate. But it needs to be clear and unambiguous: in the case of attack on one, the answer from all,» writes Stoltenberg.
The other day, Stoltenberg said that waiting for a meeting with trump in Brussels in 2017 at the NATO summit, to discuss further cooperation.
At the same time, the Alliance is concerned about a change in the leadership of the United States, intends to move its January summit in the summer.
The German publication Spiegel cites a secret report of the staff Stoltenberg, which describes the likely scenario for the new administration. Among them is the fact that trump may withdraw consent for the rotation of American soldiers in Eastern Europe, to reduce American troops in Europe and that is considered as the most acceptable, would be «just» to demand that the Europeans have increased spending on their security.
