Nasalik: In 2019 in Ukraine there is no need in anthracite

In 2019 Ukraine will no longer require coal of anthracitic group. This was during a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday said the Minister of energy and coal industry of Ukraine Igor Nasalik, the correspondent of the edition «GORDON».

«During the year we managed to reduce the consumption of anthracite coal group in half. And it’s because of the «Ukrhydroenergo». Plans for 2018 we have a decrease in the consumption of anthracite to 3 million tons, and in 2019 we have no need for anthracite coal. That is totally a challenge that has been put on diversification, will be done,» said Nasalik.

The shortage of coal in thermal power plants arose in connection with the beginning of the commercial blockade of the occupied areas of Eastern Ukraine, the ATO veterans of volunteer units that require the release of the hostages. The blockade extended to the supply of anthracite coal from the territories controlled by the militants.

16 February 2017, the national security Council and defense of Ukraine instructed the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to take urgent exhaustive measures to neutralize threats to energy security of Ukraine. Among these measures – diversification of sources of supply of coal brands anthracite and the creation of reserves. Also the Cabinet was instructed to provide temporary, until the complete overcoming of the crisis phenomena in the energy sector, the cessation of exports from Ukraine anthracite.

21 Dec Nasaliki declared that in 2016, the power plants of Ukraine have consumed 10.6 million tons of athracite, 2017 – 5 million tons, and in 2018 it is planned to reduce this figure to 3 million tons.
