Moldova intends to insist on the inclusion in the agenda of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly a question entitled «Complete withdrawal of foreign military forces from Moldova’s territory». This was stated by 29 August, the Minister of foreign Affairs and European integration of Moldova Andrey Galbur, during a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Moldova Farit Mukhametshin, the press service of the Moldovan foreign Ministry.
«Minister Andrei Galbur has confirmed the intention of the authorities of the Republic to promote inclusion in the agenda of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly of a supplementary question of the withdrawal of the Russian military», – said the Agency.
The Minister stressed that the initiative does not apply to military of the Russian Federation, which are included in the tripartite peacekeeping forces deployed in the security zone of the Transnistria.
72nd session of the UN General Assembly will open on September 12. On 22 August it became known that Moldova requested the issue of the full withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria in the agenda of the General Assembly.
Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia said the initiative «is not very friendly and quite unexpected.»
August 25, the Ambassador of Moldova in Russia Andrei Neguta was summoned to the foreign Ministry. The Department stated that during the meeting, Ryabkov drew the Ambassador’s attention «to the provocative initiative of Chisinau».
Transnistria declared sovereignty from Moldova in 1990, but the world community the region’s independence is not recognized.
After the armed conflict in Transnistria was introduced a contingent of Russian peacekeeping forces. Moldova insists on the withdrawal of Russian troops from its territory.
