Mogherini: the situation in Ukraine will be the main issue of the meeting of foreign Ministers of EU countries

The situation in Ukraine will be the first issue of today’s meeting of foreign Ministers of the EU countries in Brussels. This was stated by EU high representative for foreign and security policy Federica Mogherini before the meeting, writes European true.

«We will start the discussion with the situation in Ukraine, where in recent days there has been a significant deterioration of the situation. I talked about this on Friday (3 February — ed.) with Russian foreign Minister Lavrov, I called him, and yesterday, I had the opportunity to talk with Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine», — said Mogerini.

According to her, the Ministers will discuss the escalating violence in the Donbass, the continuing policy of the EU on non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea and support for the full implementation of the Minsk agreements, support of the Normandy format, the OSCE’s work and the implementation of reforms in Ukraine.

«The EU will continue to pursue a policy of non-recognition of the annexation of the Crimea and accurate implementation of the Minsk agreements, beginning with the ceasefire. We will continue to work with all parties, including in the Normandy format, which includes both Ukraine and Russia to find a solution,» she said.

Recall, the European Union called for an end to the fighting in Avdeevka, which it considers a flagrant violation of the agreements on the ceasefire, provided Minsk agreements.

The President of the European Council Donald Tusk said that the aggravation of the situation in Avdeevka again reminded of the ongoing challenges of Russia’s aggression in Eastern Ukraine.
