Medvedev said that Russia «it is time to shed illusions» about the abolition of sanctions after the arrival of the new «foreign leaders»

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that Russia must give up illusions about the imminent abolition of Western sanctions.

He stated this today, January 22, at the Congress of the party «United Russia», reports NEWSru.com with reference to TASS.

«It’s time to part with the illusions that our country will be lifted some sanctions. Obviously, all this — for a long time. There is nothing to hope for other people’s choices, on some foreign leaders,» — said Medvedev, whom the Congress of «United Russia» was elected Chairman of the party.

Recall, 15 December, EU leaders endorsed a fundamental political decision to extend for 6 months the economic sanctions against Russia in response to aggression against Ukraine.

As reported, the decision on the introduction of EU economic sanctions against Russia was made in summer 2014 in connection with its actions aimed at destabilizing the situation in Eastern Ukraine. Every six months the EU decides to extend the sanctions.
