Medvedev demanded to punish the perpetrators of the unsuccessful launch of Russian rocket

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev demanded to punish the perpetrators of the unsuccessful launch of the carrier rocket from the Vostochny space centre last week. He stated this at a meeting with Deputy Prime Ministers 4 Dec, said the Agency TASS.

He asked the Vice-Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, pointing to the «seriousness» of the situation.

According to Medvedev, failed rocket launch is a «reputational» loss of the space industry of the Russian Federation and «an unfortunate event».

The Russian Premier added that «no insurance payments» do not cover «costs» of a failed launch.

On 28 November, the carrier rocket was launched from the Russian cosmodrome «East». She was supposed to put into orbit satellite «meteor-M», however, the satellite link could not be established. According to media reports, because of an error in the flight mission of the carrier rocket and upper stage the satellite was launched on the wrong path, entered the atmosphere and fell into the Atlantic ocean.

A source in the rocket and space industry told the Agency «Interfax» that the reason for the failure of the launch of the Russian carrier rocket «Soyuz-2.1 b» was the «wrong orientation» of the upper stage «Fregat». Instead of overclocking the machine slowed down, began to unfold in «non-optimal direction,» and don’t have time to finish the manoeuvre before starting the engines.
