Maduro calls for international arrest warrants for the former attorney General of Venezuela

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said that would require issuing an international warrant for the arrest of former General Prosecutor Luisa Ortega, the BBC reports.

According to him, Ortega and her husband, Herman Ferrer was «involved in serious crimes.»

The public Prosecutor was deprived of office on 5 August decision is selected on the initiative of the President of the constitutional Assembly of Venezuela. The country’s Supreme court has issued a warrant for the arrest of her husband. Previously, Ortega was a supporter of the President, however, recently accused Maduro of violating the Constitution of the country and how the attorney General tried several times to prevent the creation of a constitutional Assembly.

Currently, Ortega is located in Colombia.

August 18, the constitutional Assembly of Venezuela adopted a decree on deprivation of powers of the current Parliament – the National Assembly.

Prior to that, she has proclaimed itself the highest authority of Venezuela. The Assembly was elected on 30 July, but not recognized by the United States and the European Union.

The opposition stated that in this way Maduro is creating a dictatorship in the country. During the protests in Venezuela killed more than 100 people.
