The OSCE plans to open an additional office in Popasna, Luhansk region.
According to the press service of the Lugansk regional military-civil administration, on Tuesday 23 February was the meeting of the leadership of the regional state administration with representatives of the Special monitoring mission (SMM) of the OSCE in Ukraine, during which were discussed the issues of restoration of infrastructure in Luhansk region, restoration of damaged power lines and gas supply, as well as the opening of checkpoints of entry/exit (CPW).
«Currently the region has only one pedestrian crossing in the village of the Luhansk. Decided to open another automobile checkpoint in Gold», — informed Deputy head of the Luhansk regional state administration Sergey Glackin.
«In connection with the discovery of Gold in CPW we have plans to open an office in Popasna» – said in turn the head of Severodonetsk of the OSCE office in Douro Cristache.
Another problem area, according to Klecina, is the lack of electricity.
«This problem arose due to the fact that the region has no connection with the Unified energy system of Ukraine. Four transmission lines that connect the Lugansk region of Ukraine are under occupied territory. Work to restore lines that passes through the territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities, made almost 90%. Lines that pass through occupied territory, is practically not restored,» — said the OSCE representatives, Glackin.
According to him, this issue was repeatedly raised at the Minsk talks, but the work in this direction is very slow.
Recall, recently the Federal Minister for foreign Affairs of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that the budget of the OSCE mission in Ukraine now would amount to almost 100 million euros. In addition, the OSCE permanent Council extended the mandate of the OSCE special monitoring mission in Ukraine until 31 March 2017.
To date, some 700 observers from 46 OSCE participating States are working to provide objective information on observance of the ceasefire and the withdrawal of certain weapons in Eastern Ukraine.
