Kuraev on the «Matilda»: I had a chance to talk to people from the first wave of Russian emigration — they have an idea of the canonization of Nicholas II caused rejection and quiet horror

To the modern viewer, nothing negative in this affair no, said the archdeacon of the Russian Orthodox Church Andrei Kuraev in the air of «Echo of Moscow», commenting on the film by Russian Director Alexey Uchitel «Matilda», which tells about the relationship of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II and the ballerina Mathilde Kshesinskaia.

«Different groups have different image of Nicholas II. And for some people, of course, that this film will help to ensure that, first, this image will gain at least some human facial features. Because man, of which there are two paragraphs in the book, in a tutorial – here it is suddenly something of the nature of the faces, some kind of humanity already, there is a background, on which only then, with the desire that the viewer may overlap with other information. But again and again they say: there is even more to the modern viewer that’s absolutely nothing negative in this affair no,» said Kuraev.

According to him, modern society relationship, such as those that existed between the Russian Czar and a ballerina, are normal.

«I understand that, if any out there the hermit show: «How could you?! AI-Yai-Yai! Yes, surely he could have a mistress?!» For modern youth it is so natural relationship for them is just absolutely not a problem. That is, for them it is rather strange that this man, you know, still toils. It’s so obvious: please officially with his wife, unofficially… Well, let’s see those TV shows about the kings all those «Suns» and so on: the king’s official mistress. While the Queen is a separate issue, she is, she’s alive, she’s supposed to give birth from time to time. But in addition, there is an official mistress of the king, right? And it’s this consciousness that is now becoming practically a mass,» says the archdeacon.

Kuraev said that he met people who belonged to the canonization of the last Russian Emperor negatively.

«When in 90-ies I happened sometimes to talk to people from the first wave of Russian emigration, with the aristocracy, trapped in the West, they have no idea of the canonization of Nicholas II caused much alienation and quiet horror. That is, people who have lived in the world of court gossip, is not who was personally served with a Cup of morning coffee, as it were, those who could ask the people who in these procedures participated,» he added.

The movie «Matilda» about the relationship of crown Prince Nicholas with ballerina Mathilde Kschessinska caused a great resonance in Russia. The country began the mass protests of Orthodox organizations against the release tape.

The Deputy of the state Duma Natalia Poklonskaya complained of «Matilda» to the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation. The film’s Director Alexei Uchitel claims that Russia supports and provides cover for a terrorist organization, and the protests against the «Matilda» are the only reason for this organization to Express themselves.

The Minister of culture Vladimir Medinsky called lawlessness, censorship and pressure on the state of threats made to the creators of the movie «Matilda», as well as theaters that were to show a picture.

29 September the head of the Duma Committee on culture, film Director Stanislav Govorukhin said that all MPs watching «Matilda», the picture very much.

In a massive rent «Matilda» will be released on 26 October 2017.
