The constitutional court of Ukraine of 13 January 2017 will continue consideration of the case on the constitutional representation 57 MPs regarding the constitutionality of the law of Ukraine «On principles of state language policy» from 3 July 2012, the so-called «law of Kolesnichenko-Kivalov», writes Interfax-Ukraine.
According to the agenda of the constitutional court, which is published on the official website of the court, closed part of the plenary session of the COP will begin at 10:00 on Friday, January 13.
In turn, activists of the movement «Pure language», the social network Facebook announced the intention to hold 13 January at 09:30 near the building of the constitutional court on the street, 14 in Kiev a rally demanding the immediate abolition of the «law of Kolesnichenko-Kivalov».
As reported, received on 10 July 2014, the constitutional representation of the 57 people’s deputies of Ukraine on the constitutionality of the law was considered by the panel of judges of the constitutional court, and then on 10 October the same year was opened the proceedings on the constitutionality of the law.
The Verkhovna Rada adopted initiated by the Party of regions the draft law «On principles of state language policy» July 3, 2012. August 8, President Viktor Yanukovych signed the law and instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to establish a working group to develop proposals to improve legislation on the use of languages in Ukraine.
The law came into force on 10 August, he envisages the possibility of official bilingualism in regions where the number of minority exceeds 10%.
In 2012, the Odessa regional and city councils, Kharkiv, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhia, Sevastopol, Dnipropetrovsk and Luhansk city councils, Krasnyi Luch city Council (Luhansk region), Zaporizhia, Donetsk, Kherson, Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovsk regional councils made the decision on the recognition of the Russian language regional.
The Hungarian language became regional in Beregovo (Transcarpathia), Moldovan (Romanian) in the village of Tarasivtsi in Chernivtsi region. Romanian has also become a regional language in the village White Church (ROM. Biserica Alba) Rakhiv district, Transcarpathian region.

However, at that time acting President of Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Oleksandr Turchynov refused to sign the new law. Thus, it is not yet in force.
14 December 2016, the constitutional court concluded the examination in an oral hearing on the «law of Kolesnichenko-Kivalov» and passed to the closed part of the process.
