Kazakhstan requires EU ratification of the agreement on extended partnership

The President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev believes that his country has signed a unique agreement to expand the cooperation with the European Union, which allows us to develop economic cooperation. He said this after a meeting with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Wednesday, 30 March 2016, in Brussels, reports «UKRINFORM».

«Today Kazakhstan is the only post-Soviet state that has concluded with the European Union, the agreement on extended partnership and cooperation. The agreement was signed last year. Kazakhstan had ratified it. So we 1 may may temporarily apply the economic part of this agreement,» — said Nazarbayev.

He noted that he had requested the President of the European Commission to promote the ratification of the agreement in all EU countries.

The President of Kazakhstan noted that 50% of turnover is with the EU.

«Also the 50% investment in our country came from the EU. Therefore, it is an important economic and political partner», — said Nazarbayev.

As previously reported, despite pressure from Russian authorities, Kazakhstan will not be out of the free trade Area (FTA) with Ukraine, operating under the CIS.

We will remind, on December 16 the President of Russia Vladimir Putin has signed a decree on suspension of the Treaty on the free trade Zone of the CIS with Ukraine, which later was supported by the deputies of the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian Parliament. In turn, the other countries of the Eurasian economic Union (EEU), Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia have decided not to abandon the free trade zone with Ukraine.

Thus, as stressed by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, the final decision on further trade relations with Ukraine will be taken within the EEU «during the first quarter.» In particular, he noted the existence of concerns over the fact that the «goods of the European Union at zero duty, once in Ukraine, if we are not protected by the free trade zone of the CIS will be taken to the territory of the entire CIS».
