Karpachova was elected to the management Board of the European Association of ombudsmen and human rights defenders

The first Ukrainian Ombudsman Nina Karpachova to the General Assembly of the European Ombudsman Institute, which took place in Bucharest on 21-22 September, was re-elected to the management Board of the European Association of ombudsmen and human rights defenders. On this edition of «GORDON» informed the press service of Karpachova.

At the meeting of the President of the organization elected the German Dieter Burkhard, and the Secretary-General – representative of Austria Joseph Ziguele.

The Association also includes the existing ombudsmen of Austria, Hungary, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania and some other member countries of the Council of Europe.

The event hosted the international conference on human rights, the main themes which were the political independence of the ombudsmen and their role in protection against discrimination. The General Assembly also amended the Charter of the organization: now, the governing bodies of the Association are elected for four years.

The European Institute of omsbudman include current national and regional ombudsmen, representatives of universities and human rights activists from 67 countries.

In 1998, Nina Karpachova was first elected Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on human rights. In 2012, expired on her third term of office, and the new Ombudsman Valeria lutkovskaya became.

In September 2015 Karpachova was elected to the management Board and Executive Committee of the European Association of ombudsmen.
