Italy expects the new Libyan government has given a green light to join the fight against jihadists

The special representative of the Italian government in Libya declared that Rome opposes unilateral steps in the fight against terrorists in Libya.

«Italy is against the unilateral intervention in Libya,» said Ambassador Giorgio Starace, reports the Turkish «Anadolu»Agency.

According to him, Rome will not assist the Libyans in the fight against terrorism, if the demand is not received from form at the moment, the government of national unity of Libya.

«Despite the fact that the agenda of the world community in recent times are the issues related to the situation in Syria, the presence of the terrorist organization «ISIS» in Libya is a major concern for Italy, which is located in relative proximity to the coast of Libya», — said the Italian diplomat.

He noted that ensuring security and stability in Libya is a goal shared by all the international community and Italy.

«Our main and primary objective is the creation of a national unity Government in Libya. To assist that country in combating terrorism, particularly «Islamic state», it is necessary to request of the government of Libya. We oppose unilateral initiatives in Libya,» said Mr. Starace.

The Ambassador stressed that the formation of a national unity Government in Libya and the fight against «Islamic state» associated with each other.
