The appellate instance of the Supreme court of the Russian Federation on November 24 will consider the complaint of protection of Ukrainians Oleg Sentsov and Alexander Kolchenko on the conviction of the North Caucasus military district court in respect of them. This was announced at a briefing on Friday in Kiev, the Russian Kolchenko’s lawyer Svetlana Sidorkina, reports «Interfax-Ukraine».
«November 24 will be a meeting of the appeals instance of the Supreme court of Russia, which will address the appeal. We, as lawyers, appealed in the interests of our clients by Oleg Sentsov and Oleksandr Kolchenko the verdict of the North Caucasus military district court, which was rendered against them,» said she.
Sidorkin also said that 19 November had intended to see Kolchenko in the remand prison in Rostov-on-don, but she failed to do so.
In turn, the representative of the Centre for civil liberties, an activist campaign LetMyPeopleGo Pauline Brodick announced that on November 26 in Kyiv at 19:00 will take place the action devoted to the birthday Kolchenko.
«During this campaign everyone will be able to record your video greeting, which in the future someday, maybe, get to Alexander. In any case, we will give them this information, and I think he will be very pleased,» said she.
The representative of the NGO «Committee of solidarity» Maxim Butkevich said that the activists who support Kolchenko and Sentsov are in constant contact with the foreign Ministry of Ukraine, which does not get tired to remind the world that there are such things, and people are absurd and politically motivated charges are behind bars.
«As far as I know, there are also other activities may not be as public, attempt to achieve, after all, the moment when you can return them back to their homeland,» — said the human rights activist and urged the Ukrainian authorities to make more efforts to resolve the fate of Kolchenko and Sentsov.
Recall, 25 August, 2015 decision of the North Caucasus military district court in Rostov-on-don Ukrainian film Director Sentsov was sentenced to 20 years with charges of «preparing terrorist acts in Crimea», Kolchenko — to 10 years of imprisonment for «participation in a terrorist community, complicity in the attack» with punishment serving in a colony of strict regime.
Ukraine insists that these cases are political, demands release of Nadiya Savchenko, Sentsov and other illegally detained in the Russian Federation of Ukrainians.
