Iran wants to build a pipeline to the EU

If you continue the trend of falling prices for oil, gas exports to Europe will be economically beneficial for Iran, natural gas reserves which are among the largest in the world.

Tehran is ready to build a pipeline to Europe, said Director for international Affairs of National Iranian gas company (National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) of Azizol Ramezani, reports UKRINFORM with reference to the Shana Agency.

«The countries of the region is the main priority of exporting gas to Iran. China and India can become export destinations of Iranian gas,» said Ramezani.

He stressed that the country has the world’s largest reserves of natural gas, but still is insignificant in global gas exports.

«We must increase our share, using modern technology. Though gas reserves of 34 trillion cubic feet, the production capacity of the country is 200 billion cubic meters a year,» said Ramezani.

He compared these figures with other powerful exporters: gas production in Russia (33,2 trillion cubic feet) and USA (10 trillion cubic feet) is 800 billion cubic meters a year.

Ramezani also said that Iran could enter the European market, paving the pipeline, following the example of Russia, which exports gas to Europe via a pipeline 3 thousands of miles long.

Earlier it became known that the European Union expects by 2019 to start importing gas from Turkmenistan.
