International and European Federation of journalists called on the Russian Federation to immediately release Sushchenko

International and European Federation of journalists called on the Russian Federation to immediately release Ukrainian journalist Roman Sushchenko, which in Moscow a year ago, was arrested on suspicion of espionage. The statement is published on the website of the European Federation of journalists.

It is noted that they support the similar demands voiced by the National Union of journalists of Ukraine, Independent media trade Union of Ukraine and the Russian Union of journalists.

«One year the content of the Novel in custody is an affront to freedom of the media. We urge the authorities to immediately release Sushchenko,» – said the President of the International Federation of journalists Anthony Bellanger.

The President of the European Federation of journalists Mogens Blicher Bjerregaard stressed that the charges against Sushchenko are «completely fabricated.»

«The government should immediately release him,» said Bjerregard.

The correspondent of «UKRINFORM» in France Sushchenko was arrested on 30 September 2016 in Moscow. The FSB called it personnel officer of Ukrainian military intelligence. Against a Ukrainian citizen has opened a criminal case under article «espionage».

October 1, 2016, the Lefortovo court of Moscow arrested Sushchenko for two months. The measure extended a few times.

On 25 September the Moscow court once again upholds journalist’s detention for another two months.
