In Turkey, the constitutional referendum will be held in April

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on 10 February approved the bill on constitutional reforms that will greatly expand his powers.

The bill must be put to a referendum in April, informs Radio «Freedom».

«The changes would allow Erdogan to issue decrees, to establish a state of emergency in the country to appoint Ministers and senior government officials, dissolve the Parliament and remain in power until at least 2029», — says the publication.

Erdogan believes that this reform will create stability in the country. The opposition seen as a threat to the balance of power.

As reported, January 21, the Turkish Parliament by a majority of votes approved a package of amendments to the Constitution, implying a transition to the presidential form of government and extending the period during which the President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is to return to power until 2029.
