At St. Vladimir Cathedral held a memorial service for poet and writer Oleksandr Oles and his wife Faith.
The ceremony was attended by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, his wife, the deputies, reports «UKRINFORM».
Spouses were reburied at the Lukyanovka cemetery.

«Alexander Oles, perhaps like no other, deeply revealed the pain of the human soul that has lost its Homeland and was in exile. His poetry shows how to love Ukraine. At the same time she reveals the pain and tragedy of a nation without a state, a people which has lost its independence, lost the opportunity to go on a broad road of civilized European life, we had a hundred years ago. Eternal memory!», — wrote Poroshenko.
He stressed that in his works, Oles times reported that internal strife, inability to unite for a great purpose, «often resulted in Ukraine’s history to tragic consequences.»
We will remind, in the beginning of January 2017 in Prague exhumed the remains buried at the olšany cemetery of the famous Ukrainian writer Oleksandr Oles (Kandyba) and his wife Faith. The exhumation was caused by the peculiarities of the Czech legislation: for the burial place of the deceased need to pay the rent, and the family of the man who did it and had the grave of the right of ownership, decided after his death to bury him on the spot.
Then, Ukraine’s foreign Ministry announced that the remains of Oles and his wife moved to the Depository of the cemetery until the decision of the relatives regarding the place of final disposal.
On 21 January it became known that at the request of descendants, which tracked the foreign Ministry and the Embassy of Ukraine in Canada, Alexander Oles will be reburied in Kiev Lukyanovka cemetery. The Cabinet of Ministers approved a decree on the allocation of funds for transportation in Kyiv and reburial of the remains of Ukrainian writer Oleksandr Oles.
