In the occupied Crimea and Donbass in the framework of decommunization renames the 144 settlements

In the occupied Crimea and Donbass in the framework of decommunization will be renamed 144 settlements with totalitarian names.

About it reported in a press-service of the Ukrainian national memory Institute.

«Over a thousand streets renamed in the regional centers is 47% of the planned. Also the decision of the Parliament of new titles have already received a fifth of the cities and villages,» according to the Institute.

«Until February 21, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine should be defined with new names for settlements, containing symbols of the Communist totalitarian regime, and urban and rural heads should finish renaming of local names», — stated in the message.

It is noted that on the map of Ukraine on 4 February opened 175 new names of towns and villages instead of the totalitarian toponyms of the Soviet period — 18% of what should be renamed.

As reported at the Ukrainian Institute of national memory, in the Donetsk region, renamed the city in the Donetsk oblast, the city of Krasny Liman in the estuary and the city of Dzerzhinsk in at toretskoye, Ilyichevsk Odessa region was the black sea, the city leader of Lokhvytsia district, Poltava region — Factory. New names were proposed by local communities and supported by the Ukrainian Institute of national remembrance and voted in Parliament.

«144 settlements with totalitarian names are located in the occupied territories, but they will be renamed by the Ukrainian Parliament. In the case of Crimea, after consultations with the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people, which are already underway», — noted in press service.

1028 new street names appeared only in the regional centers of the country. With the exception of «decommunization» in the early 1990s, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Ternopil, as well as temporarily occupied cities.

«Leaders» of renaming local names Dnepropetrovsk steel (316 titles), Kharkov (231 new name) and Vinnitsa (135), who completed the task more than 90%. Mariupol is already fully replaced the local totalitarian toponyms — 78 positions. In «the outsiders» was Poltava, Odessa, Sumy, Nikolaev and Kherson. Recall that for the failure of the law to the public through the courts to prosecute mayors.

Also fall under renaming 105 media, 15 of which now register new titles, and for 30 — cancelled the certificate of registration, 21 media goes under occupation.

Director of the Institute of national remembrance Vladimir viatrovych noted that it will be renamed all settlements and toponyms that fall under the act: «to Fulfill the law — not a topic for discussion. Communities have allocated enough time that they decided on new names. Many communities used the occasion for such a discussion. Unfortunately, the local authorities are part of towns and villages, not wanting to fulfill the law, has deprived people of the opportunity to make decisions about the future name. Now the decision will be made by the Parliament».

Viatrovych also added that the data published today are changing very fast. He appreciated the progress in cleaning up the country map from the symbols of totalitarian propaganda.

«After the local elections, when people are given the opportunity to quietly, without political manipulation, to talk about upcoming titles, de-communization was considerably accelerated,» — said the Director of the Institute of national remembrance, and added that the law will be met on time and in full: «Because the third phase of reform».

The process of decommunization is happening according to the Law «About the condemnation of the Communist and national socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regimes in Ukraine and the prohibition of propaganda of their symbolism».

We will remind, in October 2015, the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine on Affairs of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev said about the need to adopt a separate law on the return of the historical toponymy in Crimea.

«It is of great importance. If the state decides to rename all these names will be reflected in all world maps. In that occupation authorities in Russia or in Moscow or print, and all other countries of the world. Because they will adhere to international law,» — said Dzhemilev.

Later, Dzhemilev reported that about seventy names of settlements of the Crimea will be restored within the framework of the Ukrainian law on decommunization.
