In the Congo against authoritarian President prepare «home square»

A leading opposition leader in the Democratic Republic of the Congo was arrested by law enforcement agencies on the eve of a national strike. This is with reference to the representative of the government, Lambert Mende, according to Reuters.

«Faulu Martin, President of the party «citizenship and development» (ECIDE) and one of the organizers of the strike, was briefly detained for appeals to mass riots,» said Mende, reports UKRINFORM.

He added that a few hours Faulu released from custody due to his parliamentary immunity, so investigators will forward the case to the Parliament, which can give permission for prosecution.

Reuters explains that the opposition leader urged all residents of the Congo on Tuesday not to leave the house in protest against the actions of President Joseph Kabila, who is trying at all costs to stay in power.

The Constitution requires Kabila to resign in December, but critics accuse him of trying to postpone the presidential elections scheduled for November. Last year dozens of people were killed during protests in this regard.
