In Romania, tens of thousands of people together with the President came to anti-government rallies

Tens of thousands of people on January 22 went on the anti-government protests in the Romanian capital Bucharest and in other major cities of the country. About it reports DIGI24.

People on the streets of Romanian cities protested against plans of the government and the ruling Social democratic party to grant Amnesty to certain categories of prisoners, which, as suggested by opponents of the change, to avoid liability, many Romanian corrupt officials.

In Bucharest, the Protestants joined the country’s President Klaus Iohannis, who supported the protesters and said that he is outraged by the government’s plans.

«I came to the square as thousands of Romanians to show their outrage. A gang of politicians wants to change the criminal law of Romania, wants to weaken the rule of law. We can’t afford it,» said Klaus Iohannis.

Previously, Iohannis has already criticized the government’s plans for Amnesty of certain categories of prisoners.

In Bucharest took to the streets of more than 10 thousand persons. Also it is reported about the thousands of people who took to the streets in other major cities of the country. So, in Cluj-Napoca and Timisoara come to rallies of up to 5,000 people.

More than 500 people gathered in the square in Constanta, about 700 people protested in Iasi.

Note, the speaker of the Chamber of deputies of Romania Liviu Dragnea called the rally «the beginning of a coup.»

We will remind, in December, the ruling coalition of Romania threatened the President with impeachment.
