In Romania protests: on the streets 140 thousand people

In the centre of Bucharest, Victory Square 2 February brought together more than 30 thousand people and the number of participants anti-corruption protests are growing. It is reported by Mediafax.

This is the third night of protests in a row. Some protesters brought flowers to the police. People shouting «Police with us.»

The police distributed leaflets with the message, in which participants suggest to move away from aggressive people. Obviously, the Romanian law enforcement officers do not want a repeat of the clashes with demonstrators on 1 February.

Wednesday in Romania have passed the most mass during the last 25 years the protests, which were attended by 300 thousand people.

We will remind, the government of Romania on 31 January in spite of the mass protests adopted a resolution, which decriminalised the number of crimes and allows many corrupt officials to avoid responsibility.

The new regulation, in particular, decriminalize acts of corruption and cases of abuse of power and malpractice if the damages do not exceed 200 thousand lei (47 $ 800).

The need for an Amnesty for certain categories of criminals in the government previously explained by prison overcrowding.

The European Commission on 1 February issued a stark warning to the government of Romania for the decision and stressed the need irreversible progress in the fight against corruption.

2 February the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis appealed to the constitutional court the decree of the government and urged the Cabinet to cancel the document.

The Prime Minister of Romania stated that it will not cancel the decision and intends to take initiatives to decriminalize certain offences related to corruption.
