One of the reasons for the deterioration of Ukrainian-Polish relations have become emotions, which succumbed to the politics of both countries, said in comments to the edition «GORDON» an analyst at the Polish Institute of public Affairs in Warsaw Lukasz Wenerski.
«Poland is quite actively discussed relations with Ukraine. The debate joined by politicians, and mainstream media. Events can significantly worsen relations between the Ukrainian and Polish society. Although you need to understand that politicians don’t always reflect the attitudes of the people. I think a big role here also act out emotions. Discussion in Kiev and Warsaw will influence the opinion of people in both countries. The question is how many Ukrainians and poles will listen to the words of their politicians. Although some people will probably are exposed to negative influence and are ill-disposed towards the neighboring country,» said Winarski.
According to him, Kiev and Warsaw should postpone the discussion of historical issues.
«In Poland, disputes with Ukraine were the main subject. In Kiev there are other problems. For example, opposition to Moscow. A certain influence on the part of Polish society may have labour migration of Ukrainians to Poland. Also, we cannot exclude that the differences between Ukraine and Poland can be triggered by a third party. In any case, both countries need to lead the discussions, which will contribute to the improvement of bilateral relations and their common development. That is, we need to focus not on history, but on more relevant things. Historical questions should be postponed for the future. Now to solve them still will not work. Perhaps then the authorities in Ukraine and Poland will come people who will really be ready to compromise,» – said Winarski.
