In Peru pardoned ex-President Fujimori, serving a 25-year sentence for organizing «death squads»

The President of Peru Pedro Kuczynski pardoned ex-President Alberto Fujimori, serving a 25-year sentence. On December 24, reported the press service of the President.

79-year-old Fujimori was pardoned on humanitarian grounds, the statement said the press service.

«Fujimori suffers from a progressive incurable disease, and conditions of detention in prison threaten his life and health», – stated in the message of pardon.

Kuczynski was disposed to pardon, except Fujimori, seven more prisoners.

Fujimori was the first President of the Latin American States Asian origin. He led Peru from 1990 to 2000.

After winning the 2000 elections, he resigned amid allegations of political corruption, and then emigrated from the country. In 2007, the Chilean authorities gave Fujimori the Peruvian people.

In Lima I passed the trial of the former President. He was accused of creating «death squads» involved in the death of 25 people and abuse of power, bribery and illegal wiretapping.

7 April 2009, Fujimori was sentenced in the aggregate to 25 years in prison.
