In Georgia, the court declared unconstitutional the punishment for growing cannabis for personal use

The constitutional court of Georgia recognized this, which is not consistent with the Constitution, the rule of law, according to which the cultivation of small amounts of cannabis for personal use is a criminal offense. This was reported on the website of the Parliament of Georgia.

The plaintiffs challenged the rules under which imprisonment shall be punished by sowing, growing or cultivating of 63.73 g, 150,72 g and 265,49 g of cannabis.

The court ruled that under of 63.73 g and 150,72 g of cannabis, the danger of distribution of drugs is missing.

Also according to the court, the punishment from six to 12 years in prison for growing 265,49 grams of cannabis is a disproportionate measure.
