In Canada ethnic Ukrainian Freeland headed by the foreign Ministry

The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Canada was headed by the Ukrainian origin Chrystia Freeland, who previously held the post of Minister of international trade.

According to the decision of the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, which was announced on Thursday 10 January in the evening, Freeland was replaced by stéphane Dion, who headed the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Canada in 2015, reports «Interfax-Ukraine».

Freeland was born in the canadian city of peace river in Alberta, but her mother, Halyna Chomiak-Freeland, a Ukrainian by birth.

Freeland started his career as a journalist, worked as a stringer for the Financial Times, The Washington Post and The Economist in Ukraine. Then, he held various editorial positions in publications of the Financial Times, Globe and Mail and Thomson Reuters.

She subsequently announced her intention to run for election to the canadian Parliament from the Liberal party. She won the internal party primaries September 15, 2013 and was elected to Parliament on November 25.

November 4, 2015 Freeland became the new Minister of international trade Canada.
