In bykivnya on the outskirts of Kiev unknown persons desecrated the memorial to the victims of mass political repressions, shot by the NKVD of the USSR, the head of the Ukrainian Institute of national memory Vladimir vyatrovich.
«Near Kiev, in Bykovnya desecrated the Ukrainian and Polish memorials to victims of the NKVD. The vandals who most likely did this last night, left traces similar to those in the gut penyatskoy», — he wrote on his Facebook page.
According to the photo that was released by the viatrovych, on the Polish part of the memorial with red paint inscribed with «SS Galicia», and the Ukrainian «OUN-UPA».
The press Secretary of the foreign Ministry of Poland Joanna Wajda on his page on Twitter reported that the Polish Embassy in Ukraine had sent a note to the Ukrainian foreign Ministry demanding to clarify the circumstances of what happened in Bykivnia.
«The Embassy of Poland in Ukraine have sent the Ukrainian foreign Ministry a note in which we demand the clarification of circumstances and disclosure of the identity of those who abused the Polish military cemetery in Bykivnia,» wrote Vida.
The police of Kiev opened criminal proceedings on the fact of committing by persons unknown vandalism on the territory of National historical memorial reserve «bykivnya graves.»
«The unknown for a night of red paint painted the «bykivnya graves» and damaged two stelae. On call immediately left it is investigative-task force which examined the place and found the device with the remnants of paint. Withdrawn material evidences are directed on expert research», informs on Wednesday the press service of the Metropolitan police.
Data on incident are brought in the Unified register of pre-judicial investigations on h. 3 of article 161 (violation of equality of citizens depending on their race, national origin, religious belief, disability and other grounds) of the Criminal code of Ukraine.

National historical memorial reserve «bykivnya graves» is located in the village of Bykivnia. During 1937-1941 Bykivnia forest was the site of secret graves of victims of mass political repressions, shot by the NKVD in Kiev prisons. According to Ukrainian historians, in Bykivnia buried 30-35 thousand shot people in Kiev and the region, as well as more than 3.5 thousand foreign citizens.
