In Britain found unknown poetry of John Tolkien

In the UK found a previously unknown poetry by English writer and philologist John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, author of the trilogy «the Lord of the rings» and the novel «the Hobbit, or There and back again».

This is the BBC.

Poetry «The Shadow Man» and «Noel» were published in the annual collection of school of our lady of Abingdon for 1936.

«The Shadow Man» is an earlier version of the poem published in final form in 1962 in the book «the adventures of Tom Bombadil» (The Adventures of Tom Bombadil).

The existence of poetry learned after scholar Wayne Hammond studied the personal notes of Tolkien. In particular, the writer recalled that two of his works printed magazine the Abingdon Chronicle. In 1936 was the title of an annual collection of local schools to our lady.

As stated by the school Director Stephen Oliver: «we are unable to find the 1936 edition and sent Hammond to the archives of the sisters of mercy in London. Then when preparing for the event for former students of the school, we found our own copy, and I saw two poems that were looking for Hammond».

Now the school hopes to present them at a future exhibition.

Earlier it was reported that the publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt has undertaken to publish a previously unpublished book by John Tolkien’s «the Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun». The book was written by the writer before «the Hobbit, or There and back again» (1937) and Lord of the rings (1954-1955 biennium). The book dates from the years 1920-1930, when Tolkien was Professor of Anglo-Saxon literature at Oxford.

We also recall that 34 years after the death of the father of the genre fantasy publisher HarperCollins published his novel The Children of Hurin («Children jurina»), reconstructed by the writer’s son Christopher Tolkien from his father’s notebooks and drafts. David brown, the representative of the publisher HarperCollins, said that can with certainty be considered «Children jurina» the last «new» Tolkien novel.
