In 2017 the world has lost 65 journalists, «reporters without borders»

In 2017 the world has killed at least 65 journalists during performance of their professional duties, or in connection with its activities. This is stated in the report of «Reporters without borders».

The organization noted that this is the lowest number killed by the media for the last 14 years. This is probably due to the fact that journalists leave countries like Syria, Iraq, Yemen, where the work is too dangerous.

As indicated in the report, were deliberately killed, 39 journalists, 26 died in the performance of professional duties during hostilities or acts of terrorism. 10 people from the total number of the dead were women.

This year the most dangerous for the media was Syria, Mexico, Afghanistan, Iraq and the Philippines.

According to the organization, this year 54 of the kidnapped journalist. Among them – Ukrainian Stanislav Aseev and Edward Nadeljaev. The Ukrainians were kidnapped by militants not under the control of Kiev territories of Donbass. Medeleeva militants sentenced to 14 years in prison.

The report States that is behind bars in connection with professional activities are 326 journalists, almost half of them in China, Turkey, Syria, Iran, and Vietnam.

The Committee to protect journalists reported 262 inmates this year journalists.
