«I don’t feel like being second-class citizens». Sisters Muzychuk won’t go to Saudi Arabia for the world chess championship

The current world champion in chess blitz and rapid Anna Muzychuk from Ukraine confirmed that neither she nor her sister Mary will not go to Saudi Arabia for the world Cup. She wrote about this in Facebook on December 23.

«In a few days I will lose two world title – on and on. Just because I decided not to go to Saudi Arabia. Don’t play by anyone’s rules, not wearing the Abaya (the black Arab cloak. – «GORDON»), free to go outside and do not feel like being second-class citizens,» reads the post.

According to Muzychuk, a year ago, when she won two world champion titles, she was «the happiest man in the world of chess».

«This time I feel very bad. I’m willing to defend their principles and to skip the event, where after five days I could earn more than a dozen other tournaments. All this is annoying but the worst part is almost no one cares. It’s a really bitter feeling, still not able to change my opinion and my principles,» said player.

She said that the decision not to go to Saudi Arabia also took her sister Mariya Muzychuk.

«I’m very glad we share this point of view. And Yes, for those few who care: we’ll be back!» – posted by Anna Muzychuk.
