Hrytsak: the Introduction of biometric passports with Russia significantly complicate the work of Russian special services

The introduction of biometric control at the state border with the Russian Federation will speed up the process of identification of people involved in various types of crime. This was stated by the head of the security Service of Ukraine Vasyl Hrytsak in an interview to Agency «Interfax-Ukraine».

«I am convinced that the introduction of biometric passports for crossing the border with the Russian Federation will strengthen the national security of Ukraine. This will greatly complicate the work of the first Russian intelligence services,» he said.

On the question of whether Russia mirror to respond to the introduction of biometric control on the part of Ukraine, Hrytsak said Yes.

«I am convinced that Russia will retaliate, but it would be – we’ll see. Have to wait very long. Of course, somebody from the introduction of biometric control will have additional difficulties when crossing the border with Russia. But those people who do not break the law have nothing to fear», he concluded.

30 August 2017 the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko enacted the decision of national security Council and defense of Ukraine on strengthening control over the entry/departure into Ukraine of foreigners and persons without citizenship. According to the decree, the Cabinet of Ministers must make Russia the list of countries of migration risk.

A new entry will launch on January 1, 2018. Of border crossing for citizens of countries representing a threat to Ukraine, will have to have a biometric passport (if not, biometrics will remove the border).

1 September Poroshenko said that the biometric control will be held in three stages.

«First – a person may file a preliminary notice that he is going to Ukraine and cross the border, respectively, the database and the guards are ready. The second is the direct data recording on the border, a biometric passport or biometric data. And the third is the fixation of a person in a place where he plans to remain», – said the President.

December 24 the Minister of internal Affairs of Ukraine Zorian Shkiryak reported that all checkpoints on the border with the aggressor state already equipped with the latest systems biometric data and connected to the database of Interpol and Europol.

26 December the Ministry of foreign Affairs warned its citizens who are going to Ukraine, about the possible problems when crossing the border.
