Hrynevych said that the debate about language standards educational reform is not yet complete

Ukraine has not yet completed the discussion of the linguistic norms of education reform. On 11 January, the Minister of education and science, Liliya Hrynevych said on air «5 channel».

«When the draft law on General secondary education will appear in the Ukrainian Parliament, will begin a new discussion. And we need the draft language of the article in the law on secondary education to discuss with all the circles. And I’m afraid it will be a new round of speculation of various extreme points of view,» she said.

According to Grinevich, the initiative «cannot be rushed».

«We are ready for new serious discussion, because it is the way of the Ukrainian state», – said the Minister.

After the adoption on 5 September of 2017 on second reading and in General, Ukrainian law «About education», which expanded the use of the Ukrainian language in education, Hungary and several other countries expressed concern about the future of national minorities in Ukraine.

The law «On education» was sent for examination to the Venice Commission, which formulated the conclusions of 8 December.

Kiev has offered to amend the article 7 – concerning non-discrimination training non-state languages that are not official in the European Union. Including it was about teaching in a secondary school in Russian.

The Commission does not insist on amending article of the law, but recommends that Ukraine take measures to prevent discrimination of minority languages.

The EU has said that Kiev should take into account the recommendations of the Venice Commission on the law «On education».

14 Dec Hrynevych noted, Ukraine will continue to look for the right model of training for representatives of national minorities.
